Carolyn Olivia Ashton
I enjoy encapsulating the emotional landscapes of life, creating work that provides lasting and meaningful memories.
Originally applying my creativity to the art of architecture, I spent several years working as an Architect on interesting projects in the UK & across the globe which has influenced my approach to composition & design. With the inevitable challenge of being a military spouse, I move frequently which results in a very interesting, albeit transient, lifestyle regularly meeting new people, exploring new places & making new memories. Each relocation has provided new inspirational contexts – from the cityscapes of Lisbon & London to the Cornish shores, tors of Dartmoor & The Silver Coast of Portugal. It has resulted in a richly diverse portfolio of work, continually challenging and evolving my creativity. My continued passion for architecture, especially heritage architecture, can be seen in my drawings and my enduring love for the natural environment will always influence my landscapes, seascapes and wildlife illustrations. I work in pen & watercolour as well as large scale acrylic/mixed media for my paintings. Most recently I have forayed into the realms of military art after being commissioned to paint the Commissioning Painting for HMS MEDWAY – now proudly hanging on board in the Commanding Officer’s Cabin. My work can be viewed in galleries in Plymouth & Rickmansworth or directly on my website, I welcome you to have a browse. I fill most of my time with commissioned work so do get in touch if you need something bespoke or unique, I love a challenge.
