Got Your Six UK is a Community Interest Company promoting military mental health and wellbeing through counselling, psychotherapy, support, and local events.
Founded and run by Milspo, Tara, in conjunction with Andy, an ex-Rifles veteran, we currently provide a military specific counselling service at The Veterans Hub Weymouth and Portland CIC. Tara is a BACP registered therapist (member:403000), trained integratively to Advanced Diploma level, providing trauma-informed Counselling and Psychotherapy to the military community. (Currently free-of-charge if referred through The Veterans Hub)
Tara has a unique way of working which meets veterans on their level, uses common military language, and understands the issues faced by military families. The service has received some great feedback so far with client referrals coming in from local GP’s, military charities and agencies, and organisations. The service is open to the whole military community including spouses, and relatives (18+).
Short-term counselling for low-level issues is available through a volunteer counsellor, however their availability is limited due to the time they’re able to donate to us.
Alongside counselling qualifications, Tara is Mental Health First Aid trained specifically for the Armed Forces Community through MHFA England, and Suicide Intervention trained through ASIST – Living Works.
Got Your Six UK CIC is currently looking for a permanent base in South Somerset to widen the support available. At present Counselling and Psychotherapy is only available in Weymouth, Dorset.
In April 2023, we held the first of our annual military community art exhibitions and it was a roaring success! With exhibits from across the country, we included veterans, spouses, serving personnel, and military kids artwork, photography, and poetry! Contact us if you’re interested in joining us for 2024!
